Do I need a Covid test to enter Egypt for kitesurfing?

COVID RESTRICTIONS UPDATE – EGYPT

You want to fly to Egypt for a kite safari or for getting kitesurfing lessons, but you are not sure which are the current regulations? I’ve been flying a lot in and out of Egypt in the last months, so I can answer this and more question related to a kitesurfing holiday in Egypt. As for the 20th of October 2020, the quick answer to the question: do I need a PCR test to enter Egypt is: yes and no! It depends on 2 things:

  1. Where you are flying from
  2. Which airlines are you flying with

The point number 2 is much more important than you think: Egypt Air and Turkish Airlines for example, regardless of where you are flying from, as soon as they realize that your final destination is Egypt, will require a PCR test at departure. They don’t care that you can have a PCR test done in Hurghada airport, they won’t let you fly if you don’t have a negative PCR test done in the previous 72 hours. Period. Same thing can be said for Air Arabia, that flies to Cairo.

Pegasus on the other hand, will let you fly without a PCR test. They know that Egypt requires a negative PCR test to enter the country, but they also know that you can do this test at the Hurghada airport for 30 USD.

About point number 1 – Egypt is open to any country and travellers, but Egypt requires a negative PCR test when you land. You don’t have it? No problem, you can have a Covid Test done at Hurghada airport.

The best option, before flying is to contact the airline and ask them for their policy. Don’t waste your time contacting the embassy, their information is misleading sometimes – my suggestion is to contact the air company, they have the right to refuse you on board if you don’t follow their rules, so to avoid any problem, just ask them which their rules are.

More questions, feel free to contact me, and I hope to see you on the water soon!
