Geisum Marina Kite Spot

Geisum Marina is a kite spot located in Geisum Island, on its west part – it is called Marina cause there is a very old pier that divide two lagoons. The same pier is used sometimes to park our boat. The big lagoon is used by all kiters, with student normally training in the west part of it. All other riders normally kite closer to the pier in the big lagoon . The second lagoon (or advanced lagoon) is for expert only – if you crash your kite and you can’t relaunch it in time and you start drifting, there is a good chance that you will end up with your kite tangled on our yacht. This lagoon is also a bit far away from our rescue boats, so it could take time to see you if you need help. As I said, expert only, and don’t go kite in the advanced lagoon by yourself.

THE WIND IN GEISUM MARINA

The wind is off-shore in Geisum Marina.

FOR WHAT LEVEL OF KITEBOARDING IS GEISUM MARINA OK?

Advanced kiters will kite or in the small lagoon, or in the big lagoon closer to the beach and the pier. The lagoon is shallow, so sometimes it’s best to kite right after it, when it gets a bit deeper – it does depends on what you are looking for for that specific session.

Intermediate kiters will only kite in the big lagoon. Better be safe than sorry – you can go to the advanced lagoon only when you are really confident.

Beginner kiters and students will stay in the Big Lagoon, ideally on it’s west side. The shallow area there is huge, but do not forget to bring your watershoes, since there are rocks here and there.

AFTER KITING

Nothing to do in Geisum Marina after kiting. The lagoon is too big and shallow to be reached by rescue boats after sunset.

MORE ABOUT GEISUM MARINA

There are oil rigs west of the spot, you will easily see them but please remember never go and kite too close of them. While the crew of oil rig is used to see kites, we do not want to create any unneccessary problem.

Tides can also be a problem here: in the summer, the water is really shallow, and can be tricky at low tide to kite here.
